Spring

By late spring, average temperatures rise to around 24 °C, less rainfall is expected, and the wind speed drops.

Summer

The island has an extensive historical and cultural background. There are ancient ruins and paintings which attest to Zante's age.

Throughout the summer months the islanders rely on the tourism industry before relying upon agriculture during the winter months with the production of olive oil, raisins and grapevines. Fishing is also important, as is creating handcrafted items.

There are many religious and cultural festivals that travellers can be a part of in Zante. The Wine Festival, held in the capital, runs from the end of August to the start of September and showcases wine that has been produced by the island. Visitors have the chance to sample some of this wine before traditional-style dancing takes place all night long.

Generally within Zante's lush resorts, sport is limited to water sports where you can hire jet skis, or try out the banana boats and scuba diving. If you are looking for a land-based sport then an alternative would be cycling, as you can hire bikes and head off-road into the hills for a spot of mountain biking.

One of the top attractions in Zante is the shipwreck on the west coast of the island which can only be accessed by sea; while you are there be sure to explore the Blue Caves, or instead take a leisurely stroll around the paved streets of Zakynthos Town and sample food from the bakeries, cafes and markets.

Among the most famous people from Zante is the 19th century poet Dionysios Solomos, who wrote Greece's national anthem.
