Auckland is home to many international corporations which are generally financial and service based. The main industries in the city are education as Auckland has two universities as well as several higher education facilities, manufacturing, distribution and service industries.
The city has its own airport which is the busiest and largest in New Zealand. Travelling around Auckland is easy with good public transport services provided by buses, trains and ferries. Taxis also play a big part in helping people to travel around the area or there are options for car hire if you prefer to drive yourself and see the sights at your own pace. If you love cycling then you can also hire bikes and enjoy the fresh air while taking in some of the great views.
Auckland is home to several festivals which happen throughout the year. The Auckland Festival which is an arts and culture festival occurs every other year. Auckland's harbour which hosts many events such as flower festivals and wine festivals also proves popular with tourists.
May to August, and October, are generally the wetter months, with temperatures averaging about 24 °C during January and February.
If you like sports, you will be spoilt for choice in Auckland. Although rugby and cricket remain the most popular sports in New Zealand - other favourites include tennis, basketball, hockey and horse racing. Water sports are also a popular choice, which is no surprise given that Auckland is known as the 'City of Sails'. Why not try a spot of golf at one of the 40 golf courses or spend the day hiking through the countryside.
Auckland has a wide variety of activities and attractions to offer tourists. With in excess of 800 restaurants to choose from you will never go hungry. Take in the beautiful view from the top of the tallest free standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere, Sky Tower, catch a show at the theatre or discover the city's history and take in its culture at one of the museums. There are plenty to choose from including the Auckland Museum, Voyager Maritime Museum and the historic Auckland Art Gallery. If you are on a family holiday then visiting Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World and the Zoo is a must and will be enjoyed by all.
