Hurghada tourist information
Hurghada was established in the early 20th century as a small fishing village, but it has really been since the 1980s that the tourist industry has developed. This is down to the year-round warm climate and beautiful natural beaches. Because of its clear and calm waters Hurghada has become a popular destination for lovers of water sports.
Hurghada hosts many religious and cultural festivals and events throughout the year. One event which gathers a lot of attention is the Hurghada International Festival, held in February. The event runs for 12 days and features three different sports. The first is a triathlon, next is a 75 kilometre run where participants race off-road, and finally the festival ends with a half-marathon. If that all sounds a bit too tiring then there is also the Shem Al Nessim which marks the first day of spring. Many picnics and outdoor activities take place on this day in April.
Hurghada has its own sports stadium which holds 2,000 people. Visitors have the chance to watch a variety of sports as the stadium features a basketball court, football pitch, table tennis, handball court and volleyball court.
Tourist attractions in the city include the Hurghada Jungle Aqua Park which is home to 21 slides for both adults and children. You can discover the magnificent underwater gardens with their coral and rare fish, before heading out for a night on the town in one of the many bars and nightclubs.
