National aviation

These include several aviation forecast products for the UK Industry, serving airlines, airports, Air Traffic Service providers, BizJets, General Aviation, Offshore helicopters and emergency service operators, provided 24/7. We also have a team embedded into NATS en route operations centre.

The Met Office uses several metrics to measure the performance of our forecasts and engages extensively with Industry, helping to ensure that the UKs aviation industry receive the right information to the highest possible standards.

Taken together these are used by the UKs aviation industry to take informed decisions that help them to operate safely and efficiently.

Forecast performance

It is important to ensure that our UK aviation forecasts are provided to the highest possible standards of accuracy, timeliness and format compliance. The Met Office continuously assesses its performance against a range of KPIs agreed with the CAA. These are presented in a report produced monthly, and are scrutinised by the CAA formally every 3 months. Performance against these KPIs can be viewed on these pages.
