Aeronautical Meteorological Observing (AMO)
This course is designed for those with experience in aeronautical meteorology.
The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to make fully compliant and accurate aviation weather reports. The acquisition of the necessary skills is achieved through a combination of theory and practical training.
Aim: To provide meteorological observing staff with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to make fully compliant, accurate aviation weather reports.
Course length: 10 days (five days theory, five days practical).
Note: Attendance on this course requires a basic understanding of aviation weather reports. It is therefore expected that the delegate is familiar with a basic knowledge of the METAR code; especially the rules governing Prevailing and Minimum visibility, cloud coding and CB/TCU reporting. The reference material is in Chapters 4 and 5 of CAP 746.
Price: £3,640 per person (VAT exempt)
Location: The first week of classroom-based learning is held in the Met Office College facilities at our Exeter headquarters, with the second week of practical observations being held at a different location. The second week is currently in the process of being relocated from Belfast, and the webpage will be updated accordingly once confirmed. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact: [email protected]
On completion of this course you will be able to:
- make accurate and compliant weather observations;
- create Meteorological Aerodrome Reports (METARs) and special reports;
- understand the various systems, equipment and instruments in use, including the maintenance and calibration of the sensors;
- interpret actual/forecast surface information and any other appropriate charts and forecasts for aviation to assist in the understanding of the weather.
