Climate Risk Reports - Climate in Context Methodology
Climate Risk Reports - Climate in Context Methodology
The climate risk reports are a series of regional climate risk reports the Met Office has produced in collaboration with ODI and commissioned by FCDO to provide evidence to the UK Government in support of adaptation and resilience planning and investments. Climate risk is a combination of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability, making it critical to evaluate climate information in the context of the lives and livelihoods of the populations affected. This means understanding how different levels of action will impact human security and development for mitigation and providing information for the committed climate change to evaluate available options to manage exposure and vulnerability for adaptation. A risk-based approach helps to frame climate change challenges in a way that can best inform action to tackle those challenges and build climate resilience.
The Climate Risk Reports are provided by CLARE Climate Risk Services. CLARE is a flagship research programme on climate adaptation and resilience, funded mostly (about 90%) by UK Aid through the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). CLARE is bridging critical gaps between science and action by championing Southern leadership to enable socially inclusive and sustainable action to build resilience to climate change and natural hazards. More information is available on the CLARE website here.
The ‘Climate in Context Methodology’ report provides full details on the methodology for the Climate risk Reports and sets out guidance on best practice for undertaking assessments of future climate risk at regional or national scales, for international development planners and policymakers.
