Dr Larry Morgan
Larry develops methods for exploiting conventional observations within the global NWP suite and monitors their use and assimilation.
Areas of expertise
- The use of observations in NWP
- Observation monitoring
Current activities
Larry is currently investigating the assimilation of humidity measurements from aircraft into weather prediction models as well as maintaining the assimilation of radiosonde, surface and aircraft data.
Career background
Larry has been a member of DAE since starting at the Met Office in November 2013. Before joining the Met Office, Larry was an accomplished astrophysicist with experience as an NRAO Postdoctoral Fellow at the Green Bank Telescope, WV, USA, an NSERC Research Fellow at St Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia and as a post-doc at the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University. His main areas of research during that time were star formation and the formation/behaviour of the interstellar medium, using world-leading technologies both in the observation and computer modelling of astrophysical phenomena.
