MOSRS: Terms and Conditions

The Met Office Website Terms of Use shall apply to the operation of these Terms and Conditions.

These Terms and Conditions govern the relationship between the person seeking to register for a Met Office Science Repository ("MOSRS") Service Account ("you" or "your") and the Met Office ("our", "we" or "us"). Please read them carefully, as they set down rules on acceptable use of your account. Breach of these rules may result in suspension or termination of your account.

Security

  1. Your account is for your personal use only. You must take all reasonable precautions to prevent others from using or accessing your account. The only exception to this rule is for those accounts which the Met Office has previously agreed as requiring read-only access.
  2. You are not permitted to share passwords issued to you. You are responsible for keeping your password and keys secure.
  3. You must promptly request a password reset if you suspect your password may have been compromised or become known to somebody else.
  4. You must promptly advise the Met Office if you no longer require access to the service. Accounts which are no longer required shall be disabled.
  5. You must follow recognised best practice to secure your subversion client.
  6. You must comply with any reasonable instructions that the Met Office gives you concerning the security of your account.

Appropriate use

  1. You must not use the service in a manner which in our reasonable opinion may adversely affect the manner in which we carry out our business, or which may degrade or adversely affect operation of the service.
  2. You must not subvert any security features of the service.
  3. You must only access content from and/or upload content to the service which pertains to the relevant projects for which you are registered.
  4. You must not download from or upload to the service volumes of data which could reasonably be deemed, in the normal use of the service, as excessive.
  5. The Met Office reserves the right to disable any account if we reasonably believe that you are in breach of any of these Terms and Conditions.

Monitoring

  1. The Met Office reserves the right to monitor and log all activity, both for the purposes of diagnostics and for the investigation of malicious activity.

Availability

  1. Whilst the Met Office will use reasonable endeavours to maintain service availability, the service is provided to you without any guarantee of availability or performance. In the event of disruption or degradation of the service for any reason, the Met Office shall use reasonable endeavours to return the service to operation.

No liability

  1. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Met Office shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by you as a result of the unavailability of the service, the use of the service, any changes to, or removal of the data provided through it, or any failure to provide notification of any incident or change. This does not affect any liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, nor any liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Personal information

  1. The Met Office will process your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By registering your details with us and agreeing to these terms and conditions, you understand that the Met Office will process your personal data to the extent necessary to allow us to grant you access to, and to enable you to contribute to, MOSRS. This includes sharing your email address with all other MOSRS users to enable collaboration and using your data whilst testing changes to MOSRS. You warrant that all personal data provided by you is accurate and that you will notify us if anything changes. Please note, in order for MOSRS to function, it is necessary for us to store and process your personal data for the life of any code you contribute to. However, we will ensure that we limit our use of your personal data to what is necessary, and that we will delete what we can in accordance with the timeframes specified in our Privacy Policy. The term "personal data" shall have the meaning given to it within applicable data protection legislation in force in the UK from time to time. The user details collected are user's name, email address and their sponsoring organisation.

Freedom of Information and other access legislation

  1. The Met Office has obligations under law, including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and other access legislation, to disclose information (sometimes including confidential information) held by us. If you are affected by the Met Offices' obligations to comply with legislation, we will always endeavour to consult with you before making a decision to disclose confidential information held by us.

Changes

  1. The Met Office shall have the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to change or modify these Terms and Conditions, such change shall be effective immediately upon being made reasonably available to you.

Governing law

  1. These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts located in England shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear any dispute arising out of them.
