Since being released in May 2016 the Met Office app has been downloaded over three million times and the public are rating it highly.
With over one million sessions each day, the Met Office app is one of the most used weather forecasting apps in the UK. It offers features such as searchable weather forecasts, high-resolution rain radar and forecast, pollen alerts and information on the UKs official severe weather warnings. It is also the only app in which you can see a daily national weather video broadcast.
The app has so far had over 55,000 reviews in the Apple App store and has a 4.5* rating. It is also available on Andriod platforms and is highly regarded amongst these users too with a 4.2* rating. Since December 2016 we have doubled the number of downloads.
Met Office’s Head of Digital channels, Chris Frost said: “We are incredibly proud of achieving this milestone of 3 million downloads. Our job is to ensure the UK public is well informed and able to take action based on our weather forecasts and warnings.
“Seeing so many of the public trusting our app is testament to the hard work and steadfast commitment we have here at the Met Office to responding to user feedback and making regular updates to reflect this. This ensures we have a simple and easy to use app that is there when and where you need it.
“We are not finished yet. Keep an eye out for our next release, which we are really excited about.”
The app was completely redesigned in 2016 using feedback from the public. It continues to go through on-going updates, the latest of which allows the app to be used on nearly every tablet available.
As well as using our mobile app which is available for iPhone from the App store and for Android from the Google Play store, you can also keep an eye on the weather in your area using our forecast pages and by following us on Twitter and Facebook.
