- Variational methods
- Limited-area modelling
Publications by Christine Johnson
Current activities
Christine is working on the initial implementation of a limited-area version of the LFRic model. This includes the generation and analysis of lateral boundary conditions, and feeds in to the development of regional atmospheric modelling at the Met Office, for use in both weather and climate forecasting.
Career background
Christine joined the Dynamics Research team in 2019, having previously worked in the Ensemble Forecasting Research team on the development of initial and lateral boundary conditions for regional weather forecasting ensembles, and on the statistical post-processing of multi-model ensembles.
Prior to working at the Met Office, Christine studied at the University of Reading, gaining a BSc degree in Mathematics and Meteorology, and a PhD on variational data assimilation. From 2004 to 2006 Christine studied at NCAR, USA as an Advanced Study Program post-doctoral fellow, on the use of adaptive observations in ensemble data assimilation methods.
