Windy this evening, particularly in coastal regions, with rain spreading eastwards tonight. Heavy at times and turning wintry across the north with persistent snow over northern hills and perhaps to lower levels in places. Drier but becoming icy later. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Tuesday:

A few wintry showers first thing and perhaps again in the north by evening. Otherwise, a dry day with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells. Breezy and feeling cold. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Staying cold with wintry showers, these most likely in western coastal regions and across the north. Snow possible at times. Sunny spells for many too. Icy patches and frost overnight.

After a cold start with increasingly cloudy skies into the weekend conditions turn more to rain, sometimes heavy, with strong winds. On the leading edge of this some brief snowfall is possible, this more likely across parts of northern Scotland. Strong winds and blustery showers, especially in the west close the weekend before a more settled period develops. Late in the month there's still potential for more organised bands of rain and stronger winds, with some wintry conditions possible, though most snow limited to northern hills. Conditions remain uncertain at the turn of the month but increased signals for a resumption or continuance of more settled conditions with temperatures mostly just below average for much of the period.

Signals vary in prevailing weather patterns through early December. In general, there looks like a trend towards drier and more settled conditions, with high pressure potentially being the more dominant influence over the UK. However. there is also a chance of more changeable weather patterns, which would see Atlantic weather systems periodically move across the country. These will bring some wetter and windier interludes with a risk of some snow, especially for hills in the north. Temperatures generally a little below average becoming close to average through the period.
