HadGEM SST and ice datasets
These sea surface temperature (SST) and ice datasets has been
constructed primarily for use as external forcing for proposed
transient climate-chemistry models (CCMs) simulations
supporting the upcoming WMO/UNEP ozone assesment report. The
proposed simulations will use the IPCC SRES scencario AIB with SSTs and
sea ice taken from coupled atmosphere-ocean model simulations following
the same SRES scenario. For this purpose SST and ice datesets
have been derived using output from UK
Met Office HadGEM1 simulations performed for the IPCC fourth assessment
report. The HadGEM1 simulations had historical
anthropogenic forcing from December 1970 to November 1999 (simulation
started December 1859) , and followed the SRES A1B scenario from
December 1999 to December 2099. Volcanic stratospheric aerosols
and solar irradiance were constant.
Brief description of the data
The SST and ice concentration data were taken from HadGEM1 simulations.
The data was transformed from the HadGEM1 grid to the same 1x1 degree
grid used for the HadISST1 dataset. The fields are monthly means.
The datasets were constructed by Claire Barnett of the Met Office's
Technology and Applied Science Group.
