What is Network Weather Resilience (NWR)?
Network Weather Resilience (NWR) is a web portal which combines Met Office aviation data information with weather map data. The aim of NWR is to enable access to consistent UK met data for all stakeholders (airlines, airports and ATM) operating within UK airspace to optimise weather impact decision-making. This is being made available free-at-point-of-use, under the Met Office’s regulated remit, in agreement with the CAA.

How to register for Network Weather Resilience (NWR)
There are four main steps you will need to complete before gaining access to NWR:
- Check your organisation's eligibility to access the application and if your organisation has already been granted access.
Someone from your organisation may have already requested access to NWR and identified a superuser - please check internally if set-up has already been completed before proceeding further.
NWR is intended for use by a number of organisations - please check the following list to check your organisation's eligibility to use this application:
- UK airlines
- Global airlines operating in UK airspace
- UK ATM
- UK airports
- Global airports which have connecting or destination flights in the UK
If you are unsure whether your organisation is eligible for NWR, please contact [email protected]
- Read our Statement of Operational Use and complete our online form to register your organisation.
Your organisation will require approval before gaining access to NWR.
To do this, you will need to provide the email address you intend to use for this service, along with the email address of the intended “superuser” for your organisation and an optional back-up superuser. Email addresses must contain an organisation domain e.g. [email protected], personal email addresses will not be accepted.
The superuser will have administration rights to set up NWR for your organisation’s network, including map set up with the airport data you need and threshold set up for RED/AMBER highlighting. It is useful to have another person acting as a back-up superuser should changes need to be applied to your organisation’s set up of NWR.
Superusers will usually fulfil the following job roles:
- Airports - Operations
- Airlines - Dispatch and flight operations
- Air Traffic Management - Airspace capacity management
Please note, if your organisation has already been set-up and superusers already identified the Met Office will not be able to process requests for additional superusers without the permission/removal of the existing superusers. Please contact the superusers within your organisation if you think you should be granted superuser access to NWR. They will then need to contact 0370 900 0100 or use the contact form opposite to inform the Met Office of the changes.
Following this initial registration, you will receive a confirmation email from the Account team to let you know initial organisational set-up has been completed and the superuser set, and you can now proceed to create an account as described below.
- Create a Met Office NWR Account
IMPORTANT: You must register a new account with an email address in all lowercase letters, for example: [email protected]
Once step one has been completed, create a Met Office NWR account by using the 'Create a Met Office account' button on the log in page. View our step-by-step guide on how to create an account.
- Log in to the Network Weather Resilience portal
Once superusers have created an account, they should log in and set up the NWR preferences (airports and thresholds) as soon as possible for their organisation. Some tips on how to do this are available on our Resources Page.
Once these changes have been made, all general users can then create an account and log in.
