Scattered showers this evening, perhaps merging into a more persistent spell of rain in places. Dry through the early hours but light rain and drizzle returning to western areas later. Breezy on coasts, especially in the west and staying mild. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Thursday:

Cloudy and damp with periods of drizzly rain, this persistent at times. Murky in many coastal and hillier areas with mist and fog. Breezy but feeling increasingly warm and humid. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Warm sunny periods on Friday and Saturday but drizzly rain possible on Saturday morning. Becoming sunny and very warm on Sunday but low cloud and mist lingering on some coasts.

Following a warm night for many on Sunday, Monday is expected to be warm across many areas, especially in England and Wales. In the southeast, it may feel hot in some places. Temperatures are anticipated to be higher than on Sunday, possibly reaching the low to mid-thirties. Heavy showers may also occur within this warm air. Meanwhile, cloud and rain in the northwest will steadily move eastward, sweeping away the warm air overnight into Tuesday, resulting in a return to fresher weather. As we move through next week, the weather is likely to remain changeable, with frontal systems occasionally moving eastward from the Atlantic. Between these bands of rain, the weather will likely be quite pleasant with warm sunshine, although there may be some scattered afternoon showers in places.

The weather outlook is to maintain the story of changeable weather through this period, with an emphasis for lower pressure to the northwest of the UK. This means that the north would be more likely to see unsettled weather, with more frequent cloud, rain and stronger winds here. Meanwhile, more settled conditions are likely further south. However this does not rule out occasional showers, or perhaps even thundery outbreaks moving in from the south at times. Temperatures will be close to average, perhaps slightly below in the case of any unsettled days, but short hot spells remain possible in the south. By early September, there are hints of weather systems to become slower moving, but confidence remains low for whether this will occur.
