Weather data for school and university students

Weather data is a valuable resource and we provide a range of data free of charge to allow the completion of educational projects.

The Met Office supplies a limited amount of weather data free of charge to students and teachers as part of our education service. This data must only be used for academic work and you will be required to read and accept our Research Licence Terms and Conditions before you submit your request.

Data is available in monthly, daily and hourly format. The files will usually be delivered by e-mail, as a Microsoft Excel 2003 attachment and are updated by the 21st of each month with the latest data.

The amount of data you can receive is limited to no more than six data files from the stations listed. If you require data beyond the six free data files, or from stations other than those listed below, or for any other period, it may be available but a charge will be made.

Paid data is subject to a minimum charge of £150 + VAT. (Note, invoices can only be raised for orders over £250). You may wish to investigate other free data sources before submitting your request.

Free data

The following headings give examples of what data can be ordered for free.

Example 1. July, August and September for 2002 and 2003 for one station
Example 2. October for 2001-2006 for one station
Example 3. May and June for 2001 for three stations
Example 4. July for 2002 for six stations

                 Hourly data for 1 June 2006 for one station = 1 file
                 Hourly data for 1 July 2006 for one station = 1 file
                 Monthly data for August 2006 for one station = 1 file
                 Yearly data for 2004, 2005 and 2006 for one station = 3 files

Example 2.
                 Hourly data for 1-3 June 2002 for one station = 3 files
                 Monthly data for June, July and August 2002 for one station = 3 files
